Our guiding principles include the following:
- The union shall be an independent organisation freely founded by its members, with administration and governance exclusively under its members.
- Union membership, unless deemed otherwise, is for workers in active service in private schools who have freely joined the union and/or have collective bargaining agreements or memoranda of understanding.
- The union works to prevent discrimination by union officers, organs, members, employers or the state on grounds including race, gender, disability, age, creed or social class.
- The union shall not be affiliated to any political party. Union leaders holding party office must not use union office to promote party work.
- The union is guided by democracy, human rights and social justice, with transparency and accountability to members through its relevant organs.
- Members and leaders are expected to uphold ethics, professionalism, integrity, mutual respect and the union's code of conduct.
